Wimbledon Adopts Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in employing replay technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships this year.

Players will gain the ability to question certain decisions made by the official, echoing the system currently in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

This technology is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This move arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review specific decisions, including:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible interference end of a rally.

Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can initiate.

Case in Point

A recent example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at all of its events.

Other Changes

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.

In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
