The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any significant honors show nears, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences globally and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
