Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Debuts, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will transport Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games
Much like the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some well-known personalities, for instance the Luma, a breakout star from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut close to the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his companions.
The company has a trio of new releases publicly declared for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
