One-time National Football League Star Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Charges

Former National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an attempted murder accusation connected with a shooting that occurred in May, with his counsel entering a innocent plea on his behalf.

Correctional documents in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the National Football League, had relinquished transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an email that he has previously filed a written not guilty plea to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday early for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh said.

Based on his apprehension warrant, Brown is charged of taking a handgun from a safety staffer after a celebrity fighting event in May and shooting two bullets at a man he had clashed with previously. The reported individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that one of the bullets touched his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was obliged to take were purely in self-defense against the alleged person’s violent actions. Brown was assaulted that evening and acted within his rightful entitlement to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not promptly detained because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It wasn’t until afterward in May that Nantambu provided a detailed account about the situation to officers and named Brown as the shooter, the affidavit indicates.

From his social media content, Brown had been staying in Dubai for multiple months. In a message after the altercation, Brown stated he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple people who attempted to rob my valuables and bring physical damage to me.”

A second-degree murder attempt accusation in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year jail sentence and up to a ten thousand dollar penalty in the case of a guilty verdict.

Brown has dealt with numerous legal challenges over the time. He previously had been accused of assault of a delivery operator, several abuse charges, failure to pay family payments and other incidents.

In a 2021 season game with his team against the opponents, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and handwear and ran off the field, causing his dismissal by the Buccaneers and practically concluding his football career.

Brown, who completed a dozen years in the league, was an elite wide receiver who passed the bulk of his career with Pittsburgh. For his career, Brown had 928 catches for over 12,291 yards, the 28th highest of record. He was a multiple-time Pro Bowl pick.
