Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is truly a dung striving to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, battle mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.

Execute your actions precisely, as a wrong move means beginning again. Jump on bubbles to launch the poop upward, cross disappearing surfaces, and touch buttons to unlock secret routes. Earn currency to purchase more difficult levels in which things intensifies.

Graphically, the demo features eye-catching stages and an amazing soundtrack. The retro graphics of shifting abstract forms could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, gaming often included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on Steam this November.
